Community Covenant is excited to welcome Children’s Ministry Director Cristina Tharin to the church staff.

Cristina moved to Eagle River in June when she was relocated to Alaska by the Air Force with her husband of 18 years, Baxter, and children Charlie, 11, and Davis, 9.

Cristina said she grew up a Navy brat with roots in Georgia, where much of her family lives.

She said her family was drawn to Community Covenant because of how the congregation seeks to bring Christ’s hope, healing and wholeness to our community and to our world.

“I was inspired by the missional purpose of Community Covenant and the love for serving that is apparent in the church members,” Cristina said.

She said she wants to make a difference in the lives of families, to include those who may not attend Community Covenant.

“I hope to serve by exploring God’s endless possibilities for developing and enhancing our children’s programs, as well as reaching out to children and families in the area,” she said.

Cristina brings a unique blend of skills to the church staff.

“Many moons ago, I worked in advertising and marketing for the Discovery networks, where I gained event planning and marketing skills, she said. “After having kids, I looked for ways to get involved with organizations that serve children — leading the school parent teacher organization, organizing vacation Bible school or working as a substitute teacher and tutor. This past March, I coordinated Night to Remember, an annual fundraiser for the Royal Family KIDS Anchorage camp.”

Lead Pastor Todd Michero said he’s looking forward to seeing how Cristina will serve the Community Covenant family.

“Cristina brings dynamic organizational skills combined with a passion to see children and their families flourish spiritually,” Todd said. “Her previous experiences leading children’s ministry events will help our church cultivate fresh ideas about how to reach children and their families with the Gospel.”

Todd said he’s confident Cristina will be a great addition to the Community Covenant team as well.

“Cristina’s collaborative leadership style working in tandem with Children’s Ministry Assistant Dana Chadwick’s catalytic presence is sure to generate church-wide enthusiasm and ownership of the Children’s Ministry,” he said.

Dana said she’s also looking forward to the opportunity to work alongside Cristina.

“We are so blessed to have Cristina join the staff at CCC,” she said.  “Her talents and heart for children will allow us to better serve families as our children’s ministry continues to grow.”
